At a press conference held at Krishna Kant Park, Congress leaders strongly emphasized the importance of the “One Man, One Vote” initiative, calling for strict measures to clean up electoral rolls and ensure transparency in the democratic process.
One of the key points raised was the ongoing voter deletion drive linked to Rahul Gandhi’s 15-day foot march in Bihar. Leaders highlighted that this campaign aims to connect voter ID cards with Aadhaar numbers, making it easier to detect and remove duplicate or fake votes.
The Congress representatives also drew attention to persistent issues with voter lists, including fake and invalid residential addresses, bulk voter registrations at single addresses, invalid photos on voter IDs, and misuse of Form 6. They urged the Election Commission to address these loopholes to restore public confidence.
With the Jubilee Hills by-election approaching, the leaders pressed officials to thoroughly examine the constituency’s voter list. They pointed out a major discrepancy: despite 3,80,000 registered votes, only 70,000 were actually cast in the last election. This gap, they argued, was largely due to deceased voters and individuals who had migrated still being listed as active voters.
The central demand from the Congress party remains the same—linking voter IDs with Aadhaar to ensure that every eligible citizen has one legitimate vote, thereby strengthening the principle of “One Man, One Vote.”
In addition to electoral reforms, the leaders expressed optimism about Congress’s chances in the by-election. They credited Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s welfare schemes for boosting public support. Key initiatives highlighted include:
- Free bus travel for women
- Distribution of new ration cards
- The Indiramma housing scheme
- Enhanced Aarogyasri health coverage up to ₹15 lakhs
- Subsidized gas cylinders at ₹500
- Free electricity up to 200 units
- Supply of fine quality rice (sanna biyyam) through the PDS
According to the speakers, these welfare programs reflect the Congress government’s commitment to public welfare and are expected to play a decisive role in the upcoming election.
