The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has set the stage for one of the most ambitious sports projects in India a new international cricket stadium in Amaravati. If approved, this mega-stadium could accommodate up to 1.25 lakh spectators, surpassing the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, currently the largest cricket ground in the country.
According to ACA officials, the stadium is envisioned as a multi-event hub that will function year-round as part of a larger sports city. For this, the association has sought land allocation from the Andhra Pradesh state government. The project, if realized, is expected to redefine the sporting infrastructure in the region and attract global tournaments.
At the same time, ACA has clarified that the Vizag stadium will continue to remain a priority. The 17-year-old venue has already undergone significant renovations and has successfully hosted major matches, including the Indian Premier League and women’s World Cup games. Officials emphasized that Vizag will not be sidelined, but instead will complement Amaravati’s new facility.
However, the proposed Amaravati stadium has not been free of political undertones. The discourse surrounding the project has seen sharp exchanges between Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, with debates over development priorities and the stadium’s naming rights taking center stage.
As ACA awaits government approval, the buzz around Amaravati’s potential to host India’s biggest cricketing arena continues to grow. For cricket fans across Andhra Pradesh, this could be the beginning of a new sporting chapter, with both Amaravati and Vizag playing vital roles.
